Christmas pajama pants in July? Let me explain… Every summer our church holds a camp for a few days for girls ages 12-18. They actually camp. In tents. In nature. I’ve had the opportunity to go, both as a teenager and as an adult leader. And it is fabulous! This year two of my girls got to go to camp. They had an awesome time, thanks to some incredible leaders. Their theme for the week was Christmas in July. Fun, right? Want to know what wasn’t so fun? My girls missed the planning activities where they made Christmas pajama pants, so we had to make them at home. Now, my mom did her job growing up- I know how to sew. I’m not an expert, but I can get it done if I have to. Key words: IF I HAVE TO.
I’ve made pajama pants before. It’s not hard. But honestly, I’d much rather find a great deal somewhere and buy them. Not possible when you need Christmas print in July. So, we bought Christmas fleece (using Joann’s coupons because NO ONE is selling Christmas fleece on sale in July…). Then it sat on the laundry room counter for a few weeks. Then we finally washed it. And it sat in a basket for a few more weeks. And the week before camp I knew it was now or never. The pattern we originally bought was crazy. Crazy HUGE! The sizing had to be wrong because there was no way it was going to work for my tiny girls. And I’m not a good enough seamstress to think that I could just cut the pattern down and make it work. So I ran back to the store and grabbed a new pattern at the last minute. I’m so glad I did! It was the easiest pattern and took even less fabric than the original pattern we had. I’m totally recommending it! Simplicity 8022, people- adult and kids sizes in one pattern. Only one cut. Piece of cake! I would almost consider making pants again because it was that simple. Almost. Each pair took me about a half hour from start to finish, not including the pinning and cutting out (which is the worst part, in my opinion). The only change I made was to shave off some of the leg room because my girls were concerned they would be too baggy. Easy to do and they turned out great. And this is proof that I can do crafty things, even if I don’t necessarily enjoy it. I need that reminder every so often!
