My daughter planned a birthday party for herself this last month. Talk about the best thing ever! She told me exactly what she wanted to do, what she wanted to eat, who was coming and even did all the inviting herself. She also planned a DIY birthday craft so she would have a remembrance of the party from all the girls who were coming. Originally she wanted to find a large wooden letter “C” (her first initial) for the girls to sign. The plan was to have them sign it when they arrived at the party, then find a place for it in her room. Have you ever noticed that the letter “C” isn’t quite conducive to a lot of written messages and signatures? We needed to devise a new plan.
While standing in the craft section of WalMart, we discovered these wooden plank plaques. The planks are whitewashed, have a hanger attached and are under $6.00. You can buy them online HERE.
We also grabbed a wooden letter “C” for under $2.00 and a bottle of paint for $.59. It took her less than five minutes to get the letter painted and about ten minutes for it to dry. We used wood glue to attach it to the plank, but hot glue would have worked just as well. The whole project was done in under a half hour and ready for her party guests to sign.
When the girls came in the door, my daughter had them sign the plank surrounding the letter “C” with a sharpie that matched the paint she chose. The messages were fun and cute and now she will have something to remember her 13th birthday party. It also serves as a cute new bedroom decor piece to hang on her wall. And she loves it! It’s the perfect birthday craft. 🙂
