The perfect board game for fall is The Farming Game. www.simplyseekingjoy.comWhat board games do your kids like to play? For us I think it depends on the time of year. We are a game family and our favorites range from Rook to Love Letters to a twist on Sorry. We also love Bonanza, Qwirkle, Pit, Avalon, and Telestrations. But, our all time favorite fall board game is The Farming Game. This game is so fitting for when the weather turns cool and you’re thinking of pumpkin patches, apples and fall leaves. If you haven’t heard of The Farming Game or tried it out, you need to!

The Farming Game, which is easily available at Amazon, is an oldy but a goody. We love it as our grandpa is a real farmer and this game feels a little like real life. I grew up playing this game, scheming against my siblings, and it’s now a tradition for my kids and all the cousins as well.

The Farming Game is entertaining and educational as you become the farmer. You will purchase land and crops, harvest, own and sell property as well as farming equipment. The Farming Game is similar to Monopoly. Instead of just trying to own land, you get to do something with it such as planting fruit trees or buying cows to range. Of course there is the bank. The goal of the game is to pay off your loans by having a successful crop at each harvest and earn a lot of money. But it’s not quite that easy as you also have to draw from Farmers Fate cards which makes farming a little more real. When you draw a Farmers Fate card you may end up with good news or an unfortunate event. This could be anything from equipment breakdowns to weather problems, you know the real life stuff.

I love that every time you play the Farming Game, the game has a different twist. Sometimes you become a hay farmer, other times a rancher and sometimes you make a killing on owning an orchard. Your success all depends on the cards you draw and how the dice play out. Plan on spending at least an hour at this game. But I can’t think of a better way to spend a cool fall Sunday afternoon than playing a board game with your kids. So, go and “Harvest the Fun.”
